About Me

I am a 24 year old application developer from the United Kingdom specialising in C#.

Although my job title states that I am a web developer, the truth of the matter is that I spend an equal amount of my time on stand-alone applications and websites.

With the recent rise in popularity of JavaScript and AJAX, I moved to port most of our offline applications onto our Intranet. This allowed me to experiment with various different JavaScript frameworks and solutions. I found that, more often than not, I would choose jQuery in my development work and this led to the decision to scrap all other JavaScript code, in favour of jQuery. This included existing work written in 'pure' JavaScript.

Futurology

Although the web clearly has a long way to go before it reaches the maturity of online operating systems and thin clients, I am the eternal optimist. I'm a strong believer that, eventually, technology will become so ubiquitous that it will indeed become invisible, quite literally.

Of course, you don't need to be Gordon Moore to predict the future of computing these days, but I'm talking about computers which are not apparent, apart from their user interfaces. Users plug their own profiles into something like a USB slot and their profile is opened and their files are all there. Sometime after that, it'll all be online and a user just needs some kind of ID to access their stuff on the move. Well, that, or their very presence near a terminal which can register proximity (sort of like the latest cars).
