  • (9:25:51 AM) rworth: so each team will have a facilitator, a sub-page on the wiki, and their own irc channel
  • (9:26:20 AM) rworth: this will hopefully keep the noise down in this channel, and on the main sprint wiki page, which should be used for general stuff
  • (9:26:38 AM) rworth: If you check the wiki page there are links to each team's sub pages
  • (9:27:03 AM) rworth: http://docs.jquery.com/JQuerySprint#Subpages_and_Channels
  • (9:27:31 AM) rworth: Feel free to join the irc channels now, but please wait until we're done in here before starting any real team discussions
  • (9:27:31 AM) iMarc: so what does the agenda look like for today. what needs to get done?
  • (9:27:49 AM) rworth: iMarc: we'll get to that in just a bit
  • (9:27:55 AM) pbakaus: It might be good if we continue with an overview of each group.
  • (9:28:05 AM) rworth: pbakaus: go ahead
  • (9:28:06 AM) iMarc: k
  • (9:28:50 AM) pbakaus: the docs group is responsible for updating, correcting and adding documentation for each plugin in http://docs.jquery.com/UI
  • (9:29:19 AM) pbakaus: the groups facilitator will be rworth
  • (9:29:39 AM) pbakaus: he will later on brief you about specifics to participate in the seperated channel
  • (9:30:19 AM) pbakaus: the dev group is responsible to fix any issues coming up - they will mostly use the bug tracker
  • (9:30:44 AM) pbakaus: I will be in charge for the dev group, and I will also assign any open issues
  • (9:31:10 AM) pbakaus: again, specific topics will be dicussed in #jquery-sprint-dev
  • (9:31:47 AM) carhartl: is there a finish UI History rewrite group ;-)
  • (9:31:59 AM) rworth: carhartl: you're it ;)
  • (9:32:03 AM) pbakaus: :D I guess that's your one man group
  • (9:32:37 AM) pbakaus: the test group is responsible for creating unit tests for each of the plugins and of course for testing the components themselves and reporting possible issues to the bugtracker
  • (9:32:58 AM) scott_gonzalez [n=chatzill@c-68-36-109-177.hsd1.pa.comcast.net] entered the room.
  • (9:33:05 AM) rworth: scott_gonzalez: welcome!
  • (9:33:06 AM) pbakaus: The group's facilitator is rworth, he'll brief you in the seperated channel on how to best participate
  • (9:33:41 AM) scott_gonzalez: hey Richard
  • (9:34:06 AM) pbakaus: Finally, the demos group is responsible for creating good demos for each plugin
  • (9:34:17 AM) Miksago: http://miksago.thaposse.net/jQSprintLogs This is where full logs can be found
  • (9:34:50 AM) pbakaus: the demos group doesn't already have a facilitator - Eduardo, could you take the lead for the demos?
  • (9:35:29 AM) ***iMarc does a backflip, and thinks he's a ninja.
  • (9:36:07 AM) Miksago: i'll go now, i'll upload the next logs at 9:00HRS +11GMT
  • (9:36:16 AM) Miksago: adios
  • (9:36:18 AM) pbakaus: okay, thanks Miksago
  • (9:36:23 AM) pbakaus: later
  • (9:36:47 AM) pbakaus: anyway, let's continue with our meeting. I will be in charge for demos at this point, too.
  • (9:37:13 AM) pbakaus: Please feel free to join any of the for groups - you can also switch groups later on
  • (9:37:47 AM) rworth: we want this to be fun and efficient. We're just breaking things up to keep the noise down a bit
  • (9:38:02 AM) felix [n=sunfmin@KD125029118140.ppp-bb.dion.ne.jp] entered the room.
  • (9:38:11 AM) bganicky: http://docs.jquery.com/JQuerySprint/irclog
  • (9:38:21 AM) pbakaus: thanks, bganicky
  • (9:39:02 AM) braeker: pbakaus, sure
  • (9:39:05 AM) pbakaus: for both days, we have a couple of goals defined.
  • (9:39:09 AM) pbakaus: braeker: thanks
  • (9:39:18 AM) Miksago left the room (quit: "Any inconviences that may occur are purely coincidential, and we applaud them.").
  • (9:39:47 AM) pbakaus: rworth: could you continue with the goals for testing and docs?
  • (9:39:50 AM) Miksago [n=miksago@124-171-35-236.dyn.iinet.net.au] entered the room.
  • (9:39:53 AM) rworth: yes
  • (9:40:04 AM) rworth: first, a quick note about the team wiki pages
  • (9:40:28 AM) rworth: We really want each team (and not just the facilitator) to take ownership of your team wiki page
  • (9:40:47 AM) rworth: there's some placeholders there now, but they might not be applicable/enough for each group
  • (9:41:13 AM) rworth: if someone walks in here and says, "Hey, I've got 2 hrs. What's happening? What can I do?"
  • (9:41:34 AM) rworth: the main wiki page should give them some general info, and if they want to jump into testing (for example)
  • (9:41:58 AM) rworth: the testing page should tell them what's happened already, what's happening now, low hanging fruit, what's coming up etc.
  • (9:41:59 AM) rworth: ok
  • (9:42:06 AM) rworth: so, let me start with docs
  • (9:42:37 AM) rworth: We have an API rehaul recently. We need to make sure all the plugins got updated correctly+completely+consistently
  • (9:42:47 AM) rworth: and that goes for the docs as well
  • (9:43:10 AM) rworth: the docs team will finish and then utilize a new page: http://docs.jquery.com/UI/Guidelines
  • (9:43:38 AM) rworth: then make sure each plugin is fully documented
  • (9:44:14 AM) rworth: docs is also about more than just writing the docs, it's about testing the api. Does it make sense? Is it clear? Is it jQuery-like
  • (9:44:51 AM) iMarc: yep
  • (9:44:52 AM) pbakaus: (jQuery-like means semantically easy, to the point, short)
  • (9:45:00 AM) Miksago: wait.
  • (9:45:12 AM) Miksago: what's the last group; docs, demos, dev?
  • (9:45:15 AM) rworth: test
  • (9:45:16 AM) iMarc: the new API is great BTW
  • (9:45:31 AM) iMarc: for writing tests
  • (9:45:41 AM) Miksago: okay, logging all now.
  • (9:45:49 AM) Miksago: let's how my net works
  • (9:45:54 AM) iMarc: What do you think of... $("body").attack(); where a ninja comes out and slashes the page. "Unleash a ninja on your HTML elements with jQuery UI"
  • (9:46:07 AM) the_undefined: Question: Is this Sprint also about working on Enchant?
  • (9:46:09 AM) iMarc: may be a good selling point.
  • (9:46:22 AM) iMarc: hey felix!
  • (9:46:31 AM) the_undefined: iMarc: morning' ; )
  • (9:46:39 AM) pbakaus: the_undefined: partially - only in the dev group
  • (9:46:40 AM) the_undefined: iMarc: working hard on PT 1.5
  • (9:46:52 AM) iMarc: sweet.. hows it going?
  • (9:47:02 AM) rworth: Ok, any questions on what the docs group will be doing?
  • (9:47:02 AM) iMarc: PT 1.5
  • (9:47:16 AM) the_undefined: pbakaus: well I have some patches / fixes for some effects I think
  • (9:47:30 AM) davidserduke: sorry to interrupt, but are we starting with the code at svn/trunk/ui ? or is there some branch somewhere?
  • (9:47:34 AM) pbakaus: great - I'd be glad if you tell me about it later on the dev channel
  • (9:47:43 AM) rworth: davidserduke: trunk
  • (9:47:44 AM) the_undefined: iMarc: Gonna be a good bit of work, but I'll work hard to finish it this weekend
  • (9:48:09 AM) iMarc: nice. I will be using it on Monday then, or whenever you get it done.
  • (9:48:26 AM) rworth: ok, the testing group.
  • (9:48:27 AM) the_undefined: iMarc: what do you think of the ability to 'comment' on tasks? I.e. tasks you share, people can comment on and you get an email with their comment
  • (9:48:34 AM) the_undefined: iMarc: and you get a history of comments
  • (9:48:47 AM) rworth: This group has some very crucial work for this sprint
  • (9:49:16 AM) the_undefined: btw. I use a lot of jQuery UI in a project so I can keep updating with the stuff people come up with here and notice you about breaking things, etc.
  • (9:49:17 AM) rworth: The goal is to have good unit test coverage (90%?) of all ui plugins
  • (9:49:30 AM) the_undefined: pbakaus: will do
  • (9:49:45 AM) rworth: this is critical so that the dev team can make changes, especailly api constistency type changes, across modules
  • (9:49:47 AM) iMarc: the_undefined: not sure, i thought about taht at one point..but lets talk about that offline (on IM)
  • (9:50:04 AM) rworth: also, so that the test team can test on all supported browsers
  • (9:50:23 AM) rworth: all the while minimizing/detecting regressions
  • (9:50:23 AM) the_undefined: iMarc: right now? I'm on AIM
  • (9:51:00 AM) rworth: this is a new area for UI. I'll give a lot more details in the test channel, but as an overview, here's the most complete test page so far
  • (9:51:06 AM) rworth: http://dev.jquery.com/view/trunk/ui/tests/uiTest.dialog.html
  • (9:51:21 AM) rworth: and here's how those tests are written http://dev.jquery.com/view/trunk/ui/tests/uiTest.dialog.js
  • (9:51:21 AM) iMarc: i'm not, i'll be on when i get into work. right now i'm just sitting at home -- wanted to at least get into IRC for the meeting.
  • (9:51:41 AM) rworth: Any questions for test team goals before we move on?
  • (9:52:18 AM) _flip_ left the room (quit: ).
  • (9:52:40 AM) pbakaus: thanks Richard, let's continue with the goals for the dev group
  • (9:52:50 AM) brianpeiris: rworth: could you quickly explain what you mean by "test coverage"?
  • (9:52:54 AM) iMarc: so for UI we are just doing manual tests.. not ok(), etc
  • (9:53:11 AM) rworth: brianpeiris: test coverage means there exists a test for each api point
  • (9:53:19 AM) rworth: each option, method, callback, etc.
  • (9:53:29 AM) brianpeiris: got it, thanks.
  • (9:54:08 AM) rworth: iMarc: for now they are manual yes, because of the interactivity. We're still working on an automated test suite, but it's not yet ready for primetime
  • (9:54:43 AM) pbakaus: in jQuery's bugtracker at http://dev.jquery.com/report/19, we have 73 current open bugs for UI which need to be adressed by the dev's
  • (9:54:56 AM) iMarc: we wrote some tests for datepicker (mostly keith) --> http://dev.jquery.com/view/trunk/ui/datepicker/test/ui.datepicker.tests.html
  • (9:55:06 AM) pbakaus: also, the dev group will have to fix any further upcoming issues coming from the testing group
  • (9:56:09 AM) pbakaus: additionally, the test group is responsible for doing logical API changes proposed by the testing group (as Richard explained earlier) and specifically, there are a couple of features not working right now that need to be adressed as well. More on that in the specific channel
  • (9:56:16 AM) pbakaus: sorry, dev group
  • (9:57:02 AM) trejs left the room (quit: Read error: 110 (Connection timed out)).
  • (9:58:15 AM) pbakaus: finally, the demos group will work on two demo pages for every plugin: one functional demo and one real-world demo. The functional demo page should give the user an overview of all functionality of the specific plugin, while the real-world demo should show a real world scenario (example: shopping cart).
  • (9:58:46 AM) versatiletech: ooh
  • (9:58:59 AM) pbakaus: the demos group will also create a easy template every functional demo page should use at least, which is completely dependan upon stylesheets, so it can later be reused by the new upcoming UI site.
  • (9:59:40 AM) pbakaus: do you so far have any questions to the goals of demos or dev?
  • (10:00:11 AM) versatiletech: are you get more into details about templates in the demo channel?
  • (10:00:21 AM) versatiletech: are you going*
  • (10:00:28 AM) pbakaus: absolutely
  • (10:00:38 AM) versatiletech: ok
  • (10:01:19 AM) braeker is now known as braeker_
  • (10:01:46 AM) pbakaus: okay then - at this point, I propose we end this meeting if no one has any general questions, and break up into the seperate channels. Please feel free to ask general questions at any time in this channel, rworth and I will both watching it regularily.
  • (10:02:19 AM) versatiletech: let the games begin?
  • (10:02:33 AM) pbakaus: LET'S GET READY TO RUMBLE!
  • (10:02:53 AM) brianpeiris: I just want to say that I'll be away for a while today. So, someone, please remember to save IRC logs.
  • (10:03:35 AM) carhartl: I'll be in at around 8pm... will still have to work until then
  • (10:04:11 AM) pbakaus: okay, great
  • (10:05:00 AM) brianpeiris is now known as brianpeiris_away

  • (9:22:03 PM) Miksago: we can probably remove the irc log links and make it a table.
  • (9:22:16 PM) rworth: Miksago: I tried some things, and didn't like anything I came up with. Let's leave the logs as they are (plain text), super simple. And anyone can update them at any time. Then let's do some summarizing of the days major events/milestones on each team's page from the logs
  • (9:22:22 PM) Miksago: group name | channel | wikipage
  • (9:22:48 PM) Miksago: what do you think?
  • (9:22:59 PM) Miksago: it'd simplify it tonnes
  • (9:23:49 PM) rworth: where would the links go?
  • (9:28:53 PM) Miksago: one sec
  • (9:31:55 PM) rworth: Miksago: I made some minor changes. I actually like how it parallels the main section above it (How To Contribute)
  • (9:36:45 PM) Miksago: http://docs.jquery.com/Talk:JQuerySprint
  • (9:37:02 PM) Miksago: there is some extra formatting changes, but that's about it
  • (9:37:23 PM) Miksago: (fixed)
  • (9:37:40 PM) Miksago: is that a better way to display it all?
  • (9:37:45 PM) rworth: Miksago: where'd the irc log links go?
  • (9:38:26 PM) Miksago: so you want log links in that table?
  • (9:39:21 PM) rworth: I think it's alright how it is. Let's start adding content (to other pages) instead of just re-formatting
  • (9:39:45 PM) Miksago: changed.
  • (9:40:39 PM) Miksago: rworth: is that better?
  • (9:40:53 PM) Miksago: i'll take dev & test
  • (9:41:05 PM) rworth: Miksago: take a look now. I moved a column
  • (9:41:26 PM) Miksago: yep, better
  • (9:41:35 PM) Miksago: let's update it on the article page
  • (9:41:45 PM) rworth: Miksago: go ahead
  • (9:42:22 PM) Miksago: done
  • (9:42:52 PM) Miksago: rworth: let's go write up the important notes.
  • (9:43:09 PM) rworth: Miksago: ok, I'll take docs and demos
  • (9:43:58 PM) Miksago: first, change the = IRC Logs == to something like on dev's page
  • (9:44:07 PM) Miksago: um.
  • (9:44:09 PM) Miksago: test
  • (9:46:39 PM) ThrushAAX: how up to date are the wiki's right now? I noticed a lot of stuff is not assigned to anyone
  • (9:46:53 PM) Miksago: rworth: okay, i've updated all group pages to include a section for keynotes and full logs
  • (9:47:29 PM) rworth: ThrushAAX: It's up to people to add their names if they're working on something
  • (9:47:55 PM) ThrushAAX: rworth: that's what I thought, thanks
  • (9:48:03 PM) rworth: ThrushAAX: Miksago and I are working on updating them right now with the days events/milestones/decisions
  • (9:48:08 PM) rworth: mostly from the irc logs
  • (9:48:16 PM) Miksago: yep
  • (9:48:22 PM) Miksago: (said that in dev)

  • (9:06:03 AM) kswedberg: btw p_bakaus, I'm just here for a few minutes now. then this afternoon hope to spend a few hours with you guys.
  • (9:06:21 AM) p_bakaus: thanks everyone who participated yesterday
  • (9:06:30 AM) rworth: also, thanks to miksago for complete irc logs, along with keynotes on each team's wiki page
  • (9:06:31 AM) p_bakaus: kswedberg: ok, cool
  • (9:06:40 AM) Miksago: :) no problems
  • (9:06:42 AM) rworth: that'll help any newcomers get up to speed real quick
  • (9:06:53 AM) Miksago: I'll be logging this as well as until the finish tomorrow
  • (9:07:59 AM) Kaitlyn: just thought I would let you guys know (though I'm sure you already do) that sortable is missing many of the options it outlines, like scroll and axis
  • (9:08:23 AM) p_bakaus: so let me give you a short overview of what happened yesterday in the groups
  • (9:08:59 AM) Kaitlyn: oh wait, it apperas to be in sortable.ext.. doh :)
  • (9:10:17 AM) p_bakaus: in the dev group, we managed to close dozens of issues that were either already solved long ago or yesterday. We also had great discussions about callbacks, namespaces and options, and now there is a much cleaner API then even before
  • (9:11:16 AM) p_bakaus: in the demos group, we managed to build a working template for functional demos as well as a couple of real world demos like an image cropper
  • (9:11:51 AM) Miksago: and there was talk of other real world demo ideas
  • (9:12:06 AM) rworth: in the docs group we polished up the new UI/guidelines wiki page
  • (9:12:37 AM) rworth: and now we're plowing ahead with reviewing+updating the documentation for each plugin
  • (9:13:00 AM) rworth: ensuring completeness and consistency with UI/guidelines, the unit test, and the code
  • (9:13:58 AM) rworth: in tests, we're writing complete unit tests for each module. Dialog is 95%, draggables is 75%. The others are just getting started. If someone's not sure what they might do today, we could really use some help with writing and running tests
  • (9:14:03 AM) rworth: in all supported browsers
  • (9:14:11 AM) rworth: and throughout the day as changes are made
  • (9:14:34 AM) rworth: Any questions? comments? Feedback about yesterday?
  • (9:15:12 AM) rworth: also, testers - please add your name and which browsers you have to the test team's wiki page
  • (9:15:47 AM) scott_gonzalez: I've got some dev specific discussions, but I'll save that for the dev channel
  • (9:16:35 AM) Miksago: we should have atleast one tester in two timezones
  • (9:16:39 AM) xover: rworth: You want names on the list even for incidental contributors (e.g. that don't want to "own" any task)?
  • (9:16:50 AM) Miksago: so when we sleep, we can swap testing
  • (9:17:11 AM) rworth: xover: yes, that's fine. Put your name if you have safari for example. Then if we need something tested in safari, we can ask you
  • (9:17:29 AM) rworth: same for opera, ie, ff
  • (9:17:40 AM) rworth: version number as well
  • (9:17:54 AM) remysharp: sorry - where are these lists or are they on the bugs themselves?
  • (9:18:20 AM) Miksago: remysharp: have a look at: http://docs.jquery.com/JQuerySprint
  • (9:18:32 AM) rworth: remysharp: there's a link to each team's own wiki page
  • (9:18:45 AM) Miksago: there's a table, with links to each groups relevant info
  • (9:18:59 AM) xover: Specifically at the bottom of <http://docs.jquery.com/JQuerySprint/test>, for the browsers/testing list, right?
  • (9:19:13 AM) rworth: correct
  • (9:19:17 AM) Miksago: xover: i'll make it a seperate heading.
  • (9:19:28 AM) Miksago: (unless you want to)
  • (9:20:03 AM) Miksago: fixed.
  • (9:20:50 AM) p_bakaus: rworth: do you want to continue with your groups goals for today?
  • (9:20:57 AM) rworth: ok
  • (9:21:25 AM) rworth: The test team will continue today with writing and running unit tests, in all browsers
  • (9:21:39 AM) rworth: An additional one today will be to test each plugin without a theme
  • (9:21:58 AM) rworth: that is, each UI plugin should be functional even if there is no theme (such as flora) present
  • (9:22:55 AM) Miksago: I assume demos team will continue writing demos for both real world and functionality?
  • (9:22:57 AM) kswedberg is now known as kswedberg_is_awa
  • (9:23:03 AM) rworth: For docs, most of the docs are there. The goal is just to make sure the API is totally covered, and then to add more description in parts, so it's more than just an API reference
  • (9:23:33 AM) saturnflyer [n=saturnfl@pool-71-163-166-194.washdc.fios.verizon.net] entered the room.
  • (9:23:56 AM) rworth: it should help a user understand what the plugin is, how it's designed, and how to use it. Even if they've never heard of an accordian before (for example)
  • (9:24:44 AM) Miksago: in otherwords, my mum should be able to understand it
  • (9:24:50 AM) p_bakaus: the dev team has a very easy goal overall: to fix all outstanding bugs in trac.
  • (9:25:13 AM) rworth: p_bakaus: but the test team's goal is to make that very hard ;)
  • (9:25:20 AM) p_bakaus: correct :)
  • (9:25:48 AM) p_bakaus: the demos team's goal is to create one functional demo for every plugin and one real-world demo.
  • (9:26:19 AM) rworth: if there are people that just can't get into unit testing, feel free to play around with both demo types
  • (9:26:29 AM) p_bakaus: If you want to participate in one of the groups, please join the appropriate sub channel for more information
  • (9:26:33 AM) rworth: they're great tests, and they need to be super-rock-solid
  • (9:27:46 AM) p_bakaus: if you have any additional questions about the goals or general questions, feel free to ask them now.
  • (9:28:44 AM) phiggins: mornink mr bakaus
  • (9:29:01 AM) p_bakaus: phiggins: morning, nice to see you here
  • (9:29:25 AM) phiggins: more of a spectator, but trying ...
  • (9:29:41 AM) phiggins: stuffs looking great in trunk.
  • (9:30:33 AM) rworth: here's a closing video: http://fc01.deviantart.com/fs13/f/2007/077/2/e/Animator_vs__Animation_by_alanbecker.swf
  • (9:30:50 AM) rworth: a little reminder to have fun!
  • (9:32:38 AM) Miksago: yay for deviantart flim
  • (9:32:40 AM) Miksago: *film
  • (9:32:54 AM) Miksago: rworth: you don't happen to have an account do you?
  • (9:32:58 AM) rworth: no
  • (9:33:04 AM) Miksago: aww.
  • (9:33:10 AM) Miksago: mine's miksago
  • (9:34:01 AM) xover: heh heh, that's awsome!
  • (9:35:49 AM) Miksago: that is awesome..
  • (9:36:14 AM) Miksago: i can remember a kid i know made something similar for a computer assignment. computer's teacher gave him full marks

  • (6:04:06 PM) p_bakaus: Welcome everyone!
  • (6:04:17 PM) rworth: quick show of hands who's here?

  • (6:05:36 PM) Miksago: yeah?
  • (6:05:42 PM) Miksago: oh.
  • (6:05:46 PM) Miksago: is it that time already?
  • (6:05:51 PM) rworth: I think Tane's around as well
  • (6:06:10 PM) Miksago: anyone wanna extend it a day?

  • (6:06:59 PM) p_bakaus: I agree
  • (6:07:05 PM) rworth: and of course we want to keep the momentum even after this weekend
  • (6:07:06 PM) p_bakaus: it's not over until it's over
  • (6:07:06 PM) ***xover waves...
  • (6:07:07 PM) rworth: that's key
  • (6:07:10 PM) carhartl_: remember rocky
  • (6:07:16 PM) ds|zzZ is now known as digitalspaghetti
  • (6:07:20 PM) rworth: Thank you all so much for all your help, hard work, and devotion
  • (6:07:26 PM) rworth: What a great job
  • (6:07:39 PM) rworth: A couple quick notes about some big changes today
  • (6:07:49 PM) Miksago: p_bakaus, rworth: do you want to create sub channels for #jquery-ui that tackle dev/tests/demos/docs
  • (6:07:51 PM) Miksago: ?
  • (6:08:06 PM) p_bakaus: ?
  • (6:08:14 PM) rworth: Miksago: #jquery-ui is fine
  • (6:08:18 PM) digitalspaghetti: Miksago, there are already channels for that
  • (6:08:22 PM) Miksago: well, like we have teams and groups now.
  • (6:08:43 PM) rworth: maybe #jquery-ui-dev would make sense, but that should do it
  • (6:08:58 PM) rworth: since we wouldn't have that many people talking (about 4 different things) at once
  • (6:09:01 PM) Miksago: rworth: okay
  • (6:09:34 PM) rworth: ok, so first - most parts of dimensions we were using were moved into the core today
  • (6:09:51 PM) rworth: Thanks JohnResig for taking care of that, and cutting some bytes along the way :)
  • (6:10:03 PM) rworth: So we no longer have an external dependencies
  • (6:10:05 PM) Miksago: i thought he was quite ;P
  • (6:10:08 PM) phiggins [n=dante@c-68-34-199-67.hsd1.tn.comcast.net] entered the room.
  • (6:10:10 PM) rworth: This means test test and retest
  • (6:10:28 PM) digitalspaghetti: it's great that has finally made it into core :)
  • (6:10:39 PM) rworth: p_bakaus is still working on the last two functions - versions of them will be put into ui.base.js
  • (6:10:41 PM) digitalspaghetti: should make my life a lot easier with some upcoming stuff
  • (6:10:46 PM) rworth: next - ui.base.js is new
  • (6:10:52 PM) rworth: p_bakaus: you wanna give a summary?
  • (6:10:59 PM) p_bakaus: sure
  • (6:11:49 PM) JohnResig: oh, btw - I changed the outerHeight API slightly
  • (6:11:51 PM) p_bakaus: ui.base.js is a new base for UI that includes all kinds of useful helper functions previously found in ui.mouse.js and the last two missing functions from dimensions (scroll functions and position) stripped down for UI
  • (6:12:03 PM) p_bakaus: what's new, JohnResig?
  • (6:12:29 PM) JohnResig: I assumed that if you're passing in an options block that you're setting margin to true (there's only one option). This way you can now just say: .outerHeight(true) to get the margin as well
  • (6:12:41 PM) JohnResig: .outerHeight({margin:true}) still works, as well
  • (6:12:52 PM) p_bakaus: oh, okay, that's fine
  • (6:12:56 PM) p_bakaus: thanks
  • (6:13:53 PM) p_bakaus: so as a big update for every UI developer, you now can/should remove dimensions, and include ui.base.js instead at top
  • (6:14:12 PM) JohnResig: p_bakaus: now that there's a base file is there anything common that we can strip out of UI and move into it?
  • (6:14:21 PM) JohnResig: I assume that's something that we can tackle post-1.5
  • (6:14:40 PM) p_bakaus: JohnResig: Yes, there are a couple of things - I guess I will create a list tomorrow
  • (6:15:12 PM) rworth: another note - we were just discussing in a sub-channel. All images/icons etc. whether for themes or demos must be PD (public domain) or MIT/GPL. CC (creative commons) is not compatible
  • (6:15:34 PM) digitalspaghetti: post 1.5, i'd like to revisit my old menu code and look at helping prepare it
  • (6:15:40 PM) p_bakaus: good point rworth
  • (6:16:15 PM) Miksago: post 1.5 i'd also like to work on toolbars as well as any css/demos
  • (6:16:32 PM) xover: rworth: What about the Wiki?
  • (6:16:53 PM) rworth: and if it's only GPL, I don't think that'll be MIT/GPL. So I think that leaves us with MIT/PD, which pretty much just means MIT for graphics. JohnResig: am I wrong?
  • (6:17:25 PM) bganicky: I guess Iconbuffet is just fine?
  • (6:17:26 PM) rworth: xover: it shouldn't be part of the project if it's not free
  • (6:17:29 PM) xover: BSD and a few others are relicenseable under GPL, no?
  • (6:17:42 PM) JohnResig: rworth: we have to have a license on the files - public domain is too open, actually. MIT/GPL is good since it'll be compatible with jQuery.
  • (6:18:02 PM) Miksago: JohnResig: what about just plain GPL?
  • (6:18:09 PM) rworth: JohnResig: good point. Thank you. But if it's only GPL, that won't do.
  • (6:18:11 PM) Miksago: (V2)
  • (6:18:12 PM) JohnResig: xover: we dual-license under GPL so that we can be easily distributed in Drupal - they're a complete GPL shop.
  • (6:18:22 PM) JohnResig: rworth: correct, NO GPL-only
  • (6:18:32 PM) Miksago: okay
  • (6:18:33 PM) JohnResig: Miksago: GPL is too restrictive, which is why we use MIT
  • (6:18:34 PM) Miksago: gotcha.
  • (6:18:57 PM) digitalspaghetti: i understand jquery has a new logo on the way too? Should we start using it in the docs/tests/demos if it's done?
  • (6:19:09 PM) ***Miksago checks the license on blueprintcss (which is used as a reset in a few demos)
  • (6:19:12 PM) JohnResig: digitalspaghetti: there's a new UI logo and jQuery logo coming
  • (6:19:27 PM) digitalspaghetti: Miksago, blueprint is MIT i believe
  • (6:19:36 PM) Miksago: just MIT's fine, yes?
  • (6:19:43 PM) JohnResig: yeah, it's just a demo, that's ok
  • (6:19:50 PM) Miksago: okay
  • (6:19:58 PM) ***neojp waves
  • (6:20:04 PM) Miksago: (the icons were for a real-world demo)
  • (6:20:09 PM) digitalspaghetti: i'd love to see this (http://jquery.digitalspaghetti.me.uk/ui/demos/real-world/layout/) work with blueprint
  • (6:20:38 PM) rworth: alright, let's do a quick recap from each team
  • (6:20:41 PM) Miksago: digitalspaghetti: i'm just using the reset to tackle any style problems.. anyway, back to the meeting?
  • (6:20:47 PM) rworth: p_bakaus: you want to start?
  • (6:20:56 PM) p_bakaus: rworth: alright
  • (6:21:07 PM) p_bakaus: let's start with the dev team
  • (6:23:23 PM) p_bakaus: Thank you so much everyone for contributing your time and ideas to all the code here - together we managed to close 15+ issues at this point, and countless other issues we found that were not in the tracker, We also had great insightful discussions that lead to decisions to make the API a little bit more jquery-like and logical. Finally, as already pointed out, the biggest change is the movement of outerWidth, outerHeight, innerWidth
  • (6:24:18 PM) p_bakaus: next is the demos team
  • (6:24:51 PM) phiggins left the room (quit: ).
  • (6:25:36 PM) Miksago: (i'm processing the full logs for each channel now, they'll be update in 10mins)
  • (6:26:33 PM) p_bakaus: although I have to admit that I simply didn't have the time yet to review all the new real world demos (shame on me), I'm amazed by the creativity and efforts spend in this area. Eduardo did a great job setting up a template for functional demos (he was up till 6 am yesterday, slept 4 hours now - he's today's jQuery Rocky!), and everyone else worked on great real-world demos that can later be reused on our new upcoming homepage.
  • (6:27:13 PM) digitalspaghetti: w00t!
  • (6:27:16 PM) p_bakaus: thanks everyone in the demos team!
  • (6:27:37 PM) neojp: :D
  • (6:28:01 PM) neojp: We still need to finish some of the demos, specially Layout
  • (6:28:18 PM) JohnResig: neojp: yeah - agreed - that one was kind of freaking out for me, in some cases
  • (6:28:45 PM) p_bakaus: also, I want to give a special applause to braeker_ (Eduardo) - he didn't know that he had to lead the demo group, and he didn't even know about the sprint since a couple days ago - thanks again for all your efforts.
  • (6:28:59 PM) digitalspaghetti: One thing we're missing in the demos is a button template function, so we can create event buttons
  • (6:29:33 PM) p_bakaus: rworth: please continue with your groups if you're ready
  • (6:29:43 PM) neojp: JohnResig: Why did it freaked you out?
  • (6:30:01 PM) rworth: ok, for docs we did a little more touch-up work on UI/Guidelines (thanks Karl) and I know others started diving into individual plugins to make sure they're all done. It's pretty labor-intensive at this point, since the docs are all there, it's the fine-tuning and double-checking. Big thanks to davidserduke, xover, scott_gonzalez, kswedberg.
  • (6:30:08 PM) JohnResig: neojp: dragging from a wide column to a narrow column - the draggable jumps around a lot
  • (6:30:18 PM) rworth: We need to do some final review of some closed tickets and make sure they made it into docs
  • (6:30:24 PM) rworth: thanks everyone on docs!
  • (6:30:29 PM) rworth: (sorry if I missed someone)
  • (6:31:25 PM) p_bakaus: (I missed everyone)
  • (6:31:26 PM) neojp: JohnResig: I see
  • (6:31:38 PM) rworth: testing made some really great strides today. We've got unit test pages for accordion, dialog, draggables, resizables, selectables, and slider. Big thanks to ThrushAAX and digitalspaghetti! You rocked and provided some great feedback on the new UI unit test suite
  • (6:31:39 PM) neojp: :P
  • (6:32:01 PM) rworth: speaking of, I'm working on some updates to it to help with test setup and teardown
  • (6:32:18 PM) p_bakaus: excellent!
  • (6:32:41 PM) JohnResig: rworth: nice! can I see it running anywhere?
  • (6:33:15 PM) rworth: JohnResig: manual tests at this point. http://dev.jquery.com/view/trunk/ui/tests/uiTest.draggable.html
  • (6:33:20 PM) digitalspaghetti: http://dev.jquery.com/view/trunk/ui/tests/
  • (6:33:48 PM) JohnResig: rworth: ah, ok
  • (6:33:50 PM) rworth: but we'll be able to automate them quite easily, as well as run them in a end-user tester runner
  • (6:33:56 PM) digitalspaghetti: the stack stuff is excellent, makes it more framework like
  • (6:33:57 PM) p_bakaus: (btw - we need to clean up the demos and tests folders)
  • (6:33:58 PM) JohnResig: nice, ok
  • (6:34:37 PM) basto [i=basto@189.70.159.22] entered the room.
  • (6:34:45 PM) digitalspaghetti: a nice option in UI would be to either put a traceback on the screen in a specified div, or to console.log
  • (6:34:45 PM) rworth: p_bakaus: yes. There's a lot of cruft. I'll clean up tests
  • (6:34:55 PM) p_bakaus: rworth: excellent
  • (6:35:02 PM) digitalspaghetti: i could see that being very handy
  • (6:35:14 PM) rworth: digitalspaghetti: how do you mean?
  • (6:35:34 PM) rworth: during a test?
  • (6:36:15 PM) rworth: digitalspaghetti: see http://dev.jquery.com/view/trunk/ui/tests/uiTest.draggable.html#draggable-callbacks-start . Like that?
  • (6:36:49 PM) digitalspaghetti: no, like this: http://dev.jquery.com/view/trunk/ui/tests/uiTest.slider.html
  • (6:37:08 PM) digitalspaghetti: just the first example
  • (6:37:43 PM) JohnResig: are you guys testing in Firefox 3?
  • (6:37:54 PM) rworth: JohnResig: 2 here
  • (6:38:00 PM) p_bakaus: 2 here, too
  • (6:38:03 PM) JohnResig: ok
  • (6:38:04 PM) digitalspaghetti: i've got 3b4 on Vista
  • (6:38:07 PM) rworth: digitalspaghetti: I'm not sure I understand
  • (6:38:14 PM) JohnResig: I'm getting strange behavior in FF3 on draggables
  • (6:38:22 PM) p_bakaus: ok
  • (6:38:26 PM) JohnResig: on every drag it jumps up and to the left a couple pixels
  • (6:38:40 PM) JohnResig: works fine in FF2
  • (6:38:56 PM) p_bakaus: JohnResig: could you do me a favor and submit a short bug report?
  • (6:38:59 PM) digitalspaghetti: testing now
  • (6:39:04 PM) JohnResig: p_bakaus: sure
  • (6:39:08 PM) p_bakaus: thanks
  • (6:39:32 PM) rworth: Any other general comments/questions/items for discussion?
  • (6:39:34 PM) digitalspaghetti: yup, i can verify that issue
  • (6:40:20 PM) carhartl_: I just wanted to mention before I leave, that the "history group" ;-) made some progress as well
  • (6:40:23 PM) xover: Yep, verified in 3.0b4 on Leopard.
  • (6:40:29 PM) JohnResig: http://dev.jquery.com/ticket/2529
  • (6:40:30 PM) rworth: carhartl_: woot!
  • (6:40:39 PM) JohnResig: carhartl_: haha, nice
  • (6:40:39 PM) digitalspaghetti: jumps 5px to the top and left
  • (6:40:54 PM) Miksago: test
  • (6:41:02 PM) Miksago: oh, good, my enter key does work..
  • (6:41:09 PM) Miksago: JohnResig: i think there's a bug in the wiki.
  • (6:41:26 PM) JohnResig: how so?
  • (6:41:32 PM) Miksago: when editting the irc logs, i couldn't get the enter key to work (all enter keys)
  • (6:41:40 PM) Miksago: is there a max page limit?
  • (6:42:34 PM) JohnResig: dunno
  • (6:42:41 PM) JohnResig: how long are the logs?
  • (6:42:56 PM) p_bakaus: rworth: I want to note that it's not over 'till it's over - this is not the end of the sprint - we already came a lot nearer to our goal UI 1.5 final, and there will certainly be more in the next couple of hours. On monday, we are going to finally blog about the results of our sprint - I will also be around most of the time tomorrow, so whoever still has the power to work tomorrow, feel free to contact me :)
  • (6:43:12 PM) antares left the room (quit: "kernel trap").
  • (6:43:15 PM) digitalspaghetti: shall do p_bakaus
  • (6:43:32 PM) carhartl_: I guess I'll be around tomorrow as well
  • (6:43:40 PM) rworth: p_bakaus: indeed. Thanks paul
  • (6:43:47 PM) rworth: rock on!
  • (6:43:48 PM) p_bakaus: great -so we'll also have a nice after-sprint :)
  • (6:43:53 PM) rworth: :)
  • (6:44:01 PM) carhartl_: By the way it was great fun, and a cool spirit somehow!
  • (6:44:02 PM) Miksago: JohnResig: +1500 lines
  • (6:44:13 PM) xover: Who's bringing the beer?
  • (6:44:17 PM) JohnResig: Miksago: I don't know
  • (6:44:21 PM) Miksago: kk
  • (6:44:39 PM) p_bakaus: Finally, thank you Richard - he really was the force behind this sprint - you did a great job of organizing everything
  • (6:45:00 PM) neojp: hehe, it's been fun
  • (6:45:02 PM) carhartl_: Applause
  • (6:45:08 PM) rworth: p_bakaus: Thank you. Without all of you, it would've just been me and the crickets (chirp, chirp) ;)
  • (6:45:14 PM) neojp: :P
  • (6:45:15 PM) p_bakaus: :D
  • (6:45:17 PM) rworth: thank you all!
  • (6:45:21 PM) JohnResig: p_bakaus, rworth: thanks a ton guys :
  • (6:45:24 PM) neojp: I think paul would help you :P
  • (6:45:40 PM) p_bakaus: haha
  • (6:45:43 PM) rworth: yes
  • (6:45:45 PM) neojp: UI is getting really really good
  • (6:46:08 PM) neojp: oh btw, I think I've found some bugs in sortables
  • (6:46:10 PM) rworth: I'm amazed (but not surprised). I see some demos people put together and my jaw hits the floor
  • (6:46:18 PM) neojp: But I'm not sure at all, will need some help later
  • (6:46:28 PM) rworth: such simple building blocks, each working in concert. It really is a thing of beauty
  • (6:46:30 PM) neojp: rworth: :P
  • (6:46:39 PM) p_bakaus: rworth: I totally agree
  • (6:48:31 PM) p_bakaus: ok everyone, happy coding :)
  • (6:48:35 PM) Miksago: i really like the way that we've developed everything and gotten tests done
  • (6:48:50 PM) bganicky: if my demo is using dimensions and ui.mouse, I can just waste them and replace them with base, right?
  • (6:48:53 PM) Miksago: there seems to have been a lot more comminucation (or, i just don't know where to look)
  • (6:49:21 PM) p_bakaus: bganicky: you still have to include ui.mouse.js
  • (6:49:28 PM) bganicky: ok
  • (6:49:39 PM) Miksago: hmm..
  • (6:49:52 PM) Miksago: it's PM->AM over a day change, isn't it?
  • (6:50:04 PM) JohnResig: yes
  • (6:50:09 PM) Miksago: great.
  • (6:50:28 PM) Miksago: just wanted to make sure./.
  • (6:50:50 PM) Miksago: do these look complete: http://docs.jquery.com/JQuerySprint/dev/irclog ?
  • (6:51:48 PM) braeker_: hey people
  • (6:52:01 PM) braeker_: thanks for everything..
  • (6:52:15 PM) JohnResig: Miksago: well, current as of about 30min ago
  • (6:52:18 PM) braeker_: p_bakaus, thanks for applause
  • (6:52:28 PM) p_bakaus: :)
  • (6:52:39 PM) braeker_: p_bakaus, it wouldn't be possible if you dont saty with us!
  • (6:52:52 PM) braeker_: thanks for everyone who helped.
  • (6:53:24 PM) neojp: :)
  • (6:53:24 PM) digitalspaghetti: np guys
  • (6:53:30 PM) digitalspaghetti: glad to have been of help
  • (6:54:04 PM) ***Miksago starts on demos
  • (6:54:13 PM) p_bakaus: btw - I'd love to do a jQuery sprint every day whoever may want one - since UI is my fulltime job, feel free to ping me anytime :)
  • (6:54:38 PM) Miksago: why don't we arrange monthly sprints?
  • (6:55:34 PM) JohnResig: p_bakaus: I think just sticking around in IRC would certainly help - keep open dialog
  • (6:55:36 PM) xover: Maybe not every month, but whenever there is a specific push -- such as getting 1.5 out the door -- sounds like a good idea to me.
  • (6:55:36 PM) neojp: I agree, we could have a special date for sprints
  • (6:55:40 PM) p_bakaus: Miksago: that's a bit unrealistic - people unfortunately all have their day jobs, and it takes great efforts to get a day off - also, it takes great efforts to convince your wife to get the saturday
  • (6:55:50 PM) neojp: like the 2nd or 1st weekend of the month
  • (6:56:02 PM) digitalspaghetti: well i might have some work coming up that will require a "desktop-like feel", so i'll probably be chipping in some working time to that
  • (6:56:12 PM) p_bakaus: of course, if there's enough demand, I'd be totally happy to be around whenever you want me to
  • (6:56:38 PM) neojp: Well, we could ask, make a convocation on the mailing list
  • (6:57:14 PM) digitalspaghetti: was there any application to SoC this year?
  • (6:57:14 PM) neojp: And see if there is demand, then we could ask votes for a date
  • (6:57:20 PM) braeker_: basto, thanks for the real-world image cropper demo
  • (6:57:51 PM) Miksago: p_bakaus: okay, maybe not every month, but every few months..
  • (6:58:16 PM) p_bakaus: neojp, Miksago: I guess we can propose it in the next blog post, have a link to the maling list
  • (6:58:29 PM) p_bakaus: (the after sprint blog post on monday)
  • (6:58:40 PM) neojp: Nice
  • (6:58:47 PM) basto: thanks for the oportunity of working for jQuery
  • (6:58:48 PM) basto: ;)
  • (6:59:32 PM) braeker_: basto, feel free to help us always!
  • (6:59:45 PM) xover: Just a side note; a "Sprint" or similar is a great way to bring in new people to the project.
  • (6:59:47 PM) basto: i'll do it
  • (7:00:22 PM) p_bakaus: xover: I absolutely agree - whoever likes to invest more time in the future, feel free to ping me
  • (7:00:50 PM) xover: I'd barely touched jQuery, much less UI, before; lurking on here watching you lot work has been a great educational experience. :-)
  • (7:01:23 PM) neojp: I agree, I always wanted to help on jQuery stuff but never got the chance
  • (7:02:13 PM) Miksago: xover: that reminds me of myself back in sept. last year, just before the first release
  • (7:06:36 PM) p_bakaus: neojp: could you take a look at #2527 and see if my answer was the issue?
  • (7:06:47 PM) neojp: ok
  • (7:07:58 PM) neojp: p_bakaus: I know it's only passed when you change containers
  • (7:08:51 PM) neojp: p_bakaus: But sometimes it doesn't. And you can see it here. http://dev.jquery.com/view/trunk/ui/demos/real-world/layout/
  • (7:09:36 PM) p_bakaus: okay, going to investigate it
  • (7:09:43 PM) neojp: p_bakaus: When you change containers, a function is called, if ui.sender exists, it gets the containers size and changes the draggable helper size
  • (7:09:52 PM) neojp: p_bakaus: Please, that would fix that bug.
  • (7:10:25 PM) p_bakaus: ok
  • (7:11:43 PM) advany [i=d4b686b6@gateway/web/ajax/mibbit.com/x-0572fae3b8a2b754] entered the room.
  • (7:12:11 PM) rworth: xover: neojp: I'm really glad to hear it. You guys have been a great help. Glad to have you here :)
  • (7:12:50 PM) neojp: rworth: thanks :)
  • (7:15:46 PM) basto left the room.
  • (7:18:50 PM) digitalspaghetti: this is nice (not UI, but jQuery); http://www.gimiti.com/kltan/wordpress/?p=15

  • (7:27:49 PM) p_bakaus: everyone, I'm off now, heading to my bed - as I said, I'll be here again early tomorrow in a couple of hours
  • (7:29:31 PM) ***bganicky waves p_bakaus good night
  • (7:29:43 PM) rworth: p_bakaus: good night

  • (7:33:56 PM) p_bakaus left the room (quit: ).
  • (7:34:51 PM) rworth: javam: I don't know of any, but it sounds like a great idea
  • (7:35:11 PM) rworth: javam: you willing/able to help?
  • (7:35:16 PM) neojp: javam: That would be really good
  • (7:35:44 PM) braeker_: I have to go now :)
  • (7:35:53 PM) braeker_: thanks again for everybody who helps
  • (7:36:10 PM) javam: braeker_: nights

  • (7:36:40 PM) braeker_: bye!
  • (7:37:15 PM) javam: rworth: Yes of course
  • (7:37:15 PM) neojp: guys, is there a way to use cursorAt draggable option in sortables?
  • (7:37:26 PM) rworth: javam: what language(s)?
  • (7:37:36 PM) javam: Turkish
  • (7:37:59 PM) javam: and soma Anatolian langs
  • (7:38:49 PM) neojp: rworth: I could try to help with Spanish, but I'm not sure at all, I will be busy later on :P

  • (8:00:36 PM) neojp: Kaitlyn: Hi
  • (8:01:09 PM) neojp: When I drag a sortable from one container to another, it "jumps"
  • (8:02:14 PM) neojp: I'm going to upload a file.
  • (8:02:22 PM) Miksago: franciscallo: is layout on the svn?
  • (8:03:06 PM) neojp: Miksago: I uploaded layout
  • (8:03:28 PM) neojp: Miksago: It should be in demos/real-world folder
  • (8:05:17 PM) neojp: Hmm, will upload it later.

  • (9:47:42 PM) bmsterling: is there a difference between demo and test?
  • (9:47:54 PM) Miksago: i'm gunna write tickets for these wiki issues
  • (9:48:19 PM) rworth: demos will be simpler, won't show every option for every option
  • (9:48:40 PM) rworth: tests will be way overboard, trying arrays, strings, hashes, functions, selectors, etc.
  • (9:48:49 PM) bmsterling: rgr
  • (9:49:00 PM) rworth: other than that, not *too* much diff. between unit tests and functional demos
  • (9:49:11 PM) rworth: other than styling/presentation
  • (9:49:19 PM) rworth: then there's real world demos
  • (9:49:41 PM) bmsterling: tabs seems to be the only one with out a name next to it
